Foxes are very fast when they want to be. Clever, alert, they hunt along the edges of the woods and through the meadows and wetlands. The kits are born dark brown, but by 6 weeks they begin to be "red" foxes. The litter of kits play together in the burrow, and then out in the sunshine. The parent foxes teach them to hunt, mostly small rodents and insects and some birds. Then, by fall, the family breaks apart. If you have seen a snow covered meadow after a moonlit night, you know that foxes have a wonderful time, chasing each other, tumbling and playing. The tracks are all over!
