Shell Environmental Fund Educates at Aspen Valley
Our quest to improve the knowledge and understanding about the special qualities of every species that live amongst us has been assisted by the Shell Environmental Fund. This year educational signs have been added to your tour around the Sanctuary giving and promoting unique information concerning 15 different species that you will see here at the Sanctuary or in the wild woods of our beautiful Muskoka/Parry Sound area. These signs offer information, pictures and tracks giving each visitor, young and old, facts that will awe and impress with unknown facts most people never knew.
Owls don’t have feathers in what we would call their armpit.
The stripe of every skunk is different.
Fawns are born without a scent.
Bear cubs are born while the mother is in hibernation.
A female fox is called a vixen.
And much, much more!
By educating the public on the important and unique facts about each species will create a better understanding and eliminate misconceptions that certain animals have acquired. With this new insight it will allow a new appreciation needed for people and our essential wildlife to successfully live together. Awareness will generate an interest in the preservation of our wildlife and the environment plus bring the importance of saving our species from becoming endangered due to loss of habitat and food source.
We learn something new everyday. As you travel around the beautiful grounds of Aspen Valley be sure to stop and enjoy. How about learning new information about 15 species in one afternoon? The Shell Environmental Fund has given Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary a new tool to help and promote our fascinating wildlife.
